FAILURE is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.
KL Plus skipper Nazrulerwan Makmor is sure he’s not the only subscribing to these words of wisdom.
Days after his team’s 3-2 loss to Kuala Muda Naza handed the northern side the Premier League title, Nazrul or Badot to his friends, reviewed the season with renewed optimism, insisting the team managed to secure a spot in the Super League next season.
“We may have lost the league title but we count our blessings because we earned promotion to the top-flight. Basically we met the management’s target though we came out short on the final day,” he said.
The former national defender, who played in the Islamic Games in Saudi Arabia in 2005 but was never utilised even as a substitute in the Asian Cup in 2007, attributed to KL Plus’ promotion to coach Mat Zan Mat Aris.
“He does not tolerate players who think they are bigger than the team. He puts team ethics above everything else. Discipline is of course of utmost importance.
“Even some of our foreigners have been fined RM50 for being late five minutes for a training session,” said Nazrul who formed the backbone to Selangor’s treble success in 2005.
While giving credit to KL Plus foreigners Tercio Nunez, Adrian Trinidad and Alex Agbo for redeeming the team’s pride after finishing as wooden-spoonists last season, Nazrul was also quick to point out the progress made by the local lads.
The team gelled, said Nazrul, because of the ability to work together and backed by a professional management.
It is said that the Plus management gave an ultimatum early in the season to the players to perform and in the event of three defeats in succession, the top-earners in the team would have to go.
“The club is professionally run and the results can be seen on the pitch. I think contribution from players like Reeshafiq Alwi, S. Sumindran and Lot Abu Hassan cannot be underestimated,” said Nazrul.
There has been talk of impending changes as Mat Zan bids to form a strong team to adapt to the Super League next season but Nazrul declines to comment on his future.
“I’m proud to be part of this team but we have one-year contracts with KL Plus.”

Kuala Muda Naza dedicate league crown to family of late Nasimuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Muda Naza clinched the Premier League title in style, beating arch rivals KL Plus FC 3-2 in their final match of the season at the KL Football Stadium in Cheras last night.
The club side from Kedah dominated play and scored through Rudie Ramli (30th), Faderin Kadir (66th) and Liew Kit Kong (73rd).

Mohd Lot Abu Hassan (32nd) and Rusydee Shamsuddin (90th) replied for KL Plus.
Kuala Muda Naza and KL Plus will both play in the Super League next season by virtue of being the top two teams in the Premier League.
With yesterday’s win, Kuala Muda Naza topped the table with 61 points, four more than KL Plus.
Before kick-off, both teams observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for the late Tan Sri S.M. Nasimuddin S. M. Amin, founder and chairman of the Naza Group. He died on Thursday.
In fact, Kuala Muda Naza coach K. Devan dedicated the Premier League title to the family of the late Nasimuddin.
Devan also said that the victory was proof that Kuala Muda Naza were worthy to play in the top flight next season.
Kuala Muda Naza took to the field knowing that they only needed a draw to emerge champions.
But they were the ones who took the game by the scruff of the neck, pinning their opponents in their own half in the first 30 minutes.
But Kuala Muda Naza failed to capitalise on their domination, squandering at least three sitters.
Hitman Njoku Emeka outfoxed KL Plus goalkeeper Amini Ahmad Tabarani with a swift turn after latching onto a long through ball but, with a yawning goalmouth in front of him, the Nigerian ballooned his shot in the 10th minute.
Former international Rudie then blew two clear-cut chances. First, he shot straight at the goalkeeper from close range in the 22nd minute. Then, his stiff grounder hit the post in the 29th minute.
But a minute later Rudie made amends. Kit Kong’s header came off the woodwork and Rudie coolly tucked in the rebound.
However, Kuala Muda Naza’s joy only lasted two minutes. Brazilian Tercio Nunes Machado set up midfielder Mohd Lot, who let fly a screamer from the top of the box, giving Kuala Muda Naza goalkeeper Azizon Kadir no chance.
But Kuala Muda Naza hit back with two more goals. Man-of-the-match Faderin pounced on a loose ball to score in the 66th minute. Seven minutes later Kit Kong put the game beyond doubt off a goal-mouth melee.
Although KL Plus managed to get another goal in the dying minutes, it proved too little, too late.
